— Merlok 2.0 in various episodes

Merlok the Magician, more formally known as Merlok 2.0, and currently Mechlok is a hologram and the mentor of the Nexo Knights.

History[]

Prior to the series[]

Merlok is from Knightonia,[1] and was born with magical abilities over 500[2] years ago. He often worked with his sister, Wanda, to train in magic. He was also a member of the Wizards' Council and was often consulted with magical needs.

Merlok was a wise wizard, who wanted the best for Knighton. However, a fellow Wizards' Council member, Monstrox, wished to rule Knighton for himself and created destructive magic and forces. He also slowly began to turn the rest of the Council evil.

Rock Bottom (flashback)[]

Merlok confronted Monstrox in Brightwood Forest, where he petrified his army of Grimrocs and blasted him out of the forest, making him drop the Forbidden Powers, which Wanda picked up and gave to him.[3]

The Fortrex and the Furious (flashback)[]

Merlok trapped Monstrox's evil into twelve evil books and left them in his Library, trying to study them.[4]

Back to School (flashback)[]

Merlok sealed the Redoubt of Ruination and miniaturized it. To ensure that it wouldn't fall under the wrong hands, he gave it to the Knights' Academy librarian, Persnickety Marge, in a form of a snowglobe for safekeeping.

After the Wizards' Council's disbandment[]

Merlok befriended the king, King Halbert, who often relied on Merlok for wisdom.

Between a Rock and a Hard Place (flashback)[]

Wanda then descended into darkness after the dark magic Monstrox had infected her with twisted her to its will, despite Merlok and Wanda's best efforts, changing her name to Ruina Stoneheart and beginning to use dark magic. In a last resort to stop her, Merlok transformed her into a statue.[5] After that event, the Wizards' Council disbanded and eventually disappeared. Merlok was then left as the sole wizard in Knighton.

For five years, Merlok searched for Ruina's son, Clay Moorington, and eventually found him in Dnullib. Fearing that Clay's latent magical abilities may corrupt him the same way his sister did, Merlok hid Clay's magical heritage and potential from him in the hopes he would never discover his powers.[6]

Knights of the Realm - Part 1 (flashback)[]

Merlok would also encourage Clay to follow his dreams of becoming a knight and sent him to the Knights' Academy to help him achieve his dreams. Without Clay knowing that he was biologically his uncle, Merlok took custody of Clay and the two of them eventually moved to the main capital of the kingdom.

Merlok would often take Clay to watch the knight games with him in the Joustdome. He also observed four other knights, who would become the Nexo Knights.

Jestro the Bad... the Really, Really Bad (flashback)[]

As Jestro was often laughed at for being a bad act, Merlok took him under his wing and tried to train him as a sorcerer, but he failed. However, Merlok was able to find him a job as the King and Queen's jester.

The Book of Monsters - Part 1[]

At the Battlebration of Clay, Aaron, Macy, Lance and Axl at the Joustdome, Merlok created the illusion of a giant monster, terrifying the attendees. The new knights fought the monster, until Merlok appeared, revealing he was behind the monster's existence and that he only summoned it as a joke, before creating fireworks.

After Jestro met the Book of Monsters and turned evil, Merlok arrived at his Library and cast Clay out of the library to stop Jestro.

In a single spell, Merlok sacrificed himself to stop Jestro, the Book of Monsters, and their army. He set an explosion off, scattering his library's evil books across the kingdom.

The Book of Monsters - Part 2[]

After his death, Knighton mourned over Merlok's demise. However, unknown to the populous, his explosion sent him into the castle's computer system and transformed him into a program. He then tried to get into contact with Knights' Academy students Robin Underwood and Ava Prentis to warn them about Jestro's plan to attack the kingdom, but his image kept freezing up on their computer.

Finally, Ava tracked the signal, and she and Robin hurried to the library and activated the program. Merlok was reborn as an orange hologram and was able to provide the Nexo Knights with Nexo Powers to defeat the Lava Monsters.

After the battle, everybody was ecstatic to see Merlok again, now as Merlok 2.0. However, the wizard warned that Jestro would soon be back.

The Black Knight[]

When the knights settled with the mishaps of their evil replicas due to the work of the Book of Monsters and Jestro, Merlok 2.0 went through the Academy's systems to promote Ava and Robin for their contributions to stop evil. He even requested them to get back to the knights to help them fix up the mecha that Robin have piloted, in which even the knights were unsure on how to reassemble it.

The Might and the Magic[]

Merlok 2.0 and Ava managed to gather the separated knights together in the battle against Jestro and the Book of Monsters from the capital city gates. He gave the knights the Nexo Powers, except for Clay as he decides to give him a special spell he haven't used for ages. Ava shuts down the engines of the Fortrex, which gives her enough power for Merlock to send the spell to Clay. After the monsters were chased away from the city, he was observing the fireworks display through the monitor screens in the Fortrex.

Season 4[]

After realizing Clay's awoken powers, Merlok decides to reveal the truth about himself and Clay, their origins and past, which earns the knights' sympathy towards them.

As the final stand against the stone Colossus, Merlok along with Ava and Robin sets up a rocket within the library, building it for 5 days straight. Robin also builds a mechanical body for Merlok, with Clay helping in transferring Merlok from the Fortrex to the mecha itself, which allows the digital wizard to be in active combat.

LEGO.com description[]

Merlok is the wizard protector of Knighton. He used to be a real-life wizard, but a magic blast dissolved his physical form and now he lives in the Fortrex computers as the sentient operating system Merlok 2.0. In his new, digital shape he helps the knights upgrade with NEXO Powers, but his personality is still the same. He is quirky, kind and very proud of his brave NEXO KNIGHTS heroes. But as awesome as the NEXO Powers are, Merlok stills believes things were better back in days of the good, old magic.[7]
